Android phone on your child’s hand? Here’s how to use parental control on it.

Smartphone becomes the sixth finger of every person nowadays. Unavoidable to the millennials. Generations after that seem to stick the mobiles more than ever. It’s pretty common to see a child handling smartphones with ease, even better than most of us. Unfortunately, a mobile phone with an internet is dangerous than a common parent thinks. If you’re worried about your child’s extensive phone usage, browsing the vast internet with plethora of uncensored content then it’s time to take control. Recently Google rolled out an app for this purpose. Google Family Link. By installing this app on your child’s phone and yours, it gives the ability to control few settings of your child’s phone. Few of them are

• Control which app your child install
• Control the screen time/ usage time
• Set bedtime, so after that your child can’t access the phone
• Restrict the access to phone with one click
• Videos and music they listen to on Google Play.
• and few more….

Basically, it is like making ground rules for your children and you can control it remotely from your phone. A small caveat on the app is, your child’s Google account should be created by you. You can create a new child account through this ‘Family Link’ app by entering your child’s name, gender, and date of birth. The real punch is, you can’t control your child’s phone when she/he grew older than 13. Over 13, you can’t use the same strategy. For the teen’s parents, there’s another option to control (actually restrict) the apps they install, music and videos they can listen. That too to some extent. The option is enabling parental control on ‘Play Store’ settings with a PIN. The below steps from Google’s support page may help you to do that.

1. On the device you want parental controls on, open the Play Store app .
2. In the top left corner, tap Menu   Settings  Parental controls.
3. Turn “Parental controls” On.
4. Create a PIN. This prevents people who don’t know the PIN from changing your parental control settings. If you’re setting up parental controls on your child’s device, choose a PIN they don’t already know.
5. Tap the type of content you want to filter.
6. Choose how to filter or restrict access.
