Buy apps and games on Google Play Store through Airtel

Written by Sakthi Tharan

Apart from the fuss on digital economy in India, buying things through carrier billing is very new to the country. In the beginning of this year, Airtel announced the offering of carrier billing for buying apps in on Google Play Store.

I have a received a service message from Airtel today, stating the following

Introducing Airtel Billing option for Google Playstore. Now purchase apps, games and more from Playstore, select Airtel Billing option and pay from your Airtel prepaid number. No Credit/Debit Card details required. Try now at T&C apply

The link brought me to Google Play Store page with the list of some apps and games, nothing else to learn more about this payment method. When I checked my Play Store settings, I can see a new payment method added ‘Airtel Billing’. See below screenshot.

You can see the new payment method “Use Airtel Billing” inside Google Play Store account settings

The new Airtel billing method is not working for me due to some reasons. Later I come to know that, this billing method is only available for post-paid customers. Logical. So if you have a prepaid Airtel connection it will not work for you, at least for now. Follow us, if there’s any update regarding this we’ll let you know. If you have questions, post it in the comment section below.
