Google, the most visited site all the time, and Google is not monopoly in any of its product, but Google always works hard to make itself to keep at the cutting edge.
Here’s the list of tech vendors that are likely to shape up as Google’s biggest rivals in the year ahead and the areas in which they will compete hardest.
1. Amazon
Amazon being the America’s largest online selling site, which challenges Google with its e-book selling which is now offering more than 360,000 e-books in its Kindle store. Amazon CEO Jeffrey Bezos is a true frenemy of Google’s, having been one of the search firm’s initial investors back in 1998.
Google with its search capability lists out almost every e-books available in the web, which is currently offering the e-book service with Google Books. Google likely to start a new service called “Google Edition” in coming year.
2. Apple
Apple with its Iphone stands in peak of 3G device and its GUI is remarkable when compared to other devices and OS s.
‘Android’ by Google is really a big problem to Apple, and by releasing counter products like ‘Ipad’ will expected to trapped by Google’s net book and its light weight open source OS Google Chromium.
Chrome browser is one of competitive product against Apple’s Safari.
‘iTunes’ America’s #1 music retailer in 2009, which is now feels hard to keep that place this year because of Google’s Music search partnered with La La Media and MySpace.
3. AT & T, Verizon
AT & T is now faces challenges with ‘Google Voice’ which is an online voice service connect with local telephone lines. Smart phone is also an another topic that can be included here.
4. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace
Facebook with MicroSoft Partnership changes orkut to question mark from exclamatory mark. Orkut looses its high page views and Facebook world’s #1 social networking site which is now working hard to keep its rank.
Rumors of Google going to buy twitter cleared after releasing of Google’s Buzz. This is one of the area Google should improve, but it is also important to think where users will get their information in the future: in search or in social networks?
5. Hulu
Hulu provides professionally created content from its owners, which include Fox, NBC and Disney. Though not profitable, Hulu may start charging for its content in 2010, which would shake up this market. Even though Google’s Youtube loses $470 million in 2009, may be profitable in upcoming year with Ads.
6. IBM
Google with its ‘Google Apps’ defeats IBM’s Lotus by combining mail, instant messaging, calendaring and document sharing. While IBM tries to keep its place by releasing ‘LiveLotus iNotes’. But after the release of ‘Google Wave’ IBM loses in this battle.
7. Microsoft
For me Microsoft is responds well in this rivalry. Google releases Web based Document editors ‘Google Docs’ was now responded by Microsoft with its web based free document editor. Google Apps released to under cut the sales of Microsoft products.Microsoft updated its MSN search to ‘Bing’ with image search and Maps.
Adsense against Publisher network, Chrome against IE, Docs against MS Office, Android against Windows Phone and last but not least Chromium OS is to released in this year against Windows OS.
8. Yahoo
Some of the same category products by Google and Yahoo are Search, Mail, Chat. Google’s ‘Adsense’ stood first while ‘Yahoo Publisher Network’ has more space to improve.
In case of Answers Google closes its Google Answer while Yahoo answers still runs successfully.
9. ebay
e-bay with global easy buy option which is doesn’t care about Google’s Product Search (formerly froogle) service. Paypal the online payment service a part of e-bay company is also still in number #1 when compared to Google’s 2CO (2 check out).
10. others
There is more competitors for Google, even though they are not as strong as above companies, it still challenges with some of Google like Commission Junction (against Google Affiliate) other cpc advertising agents (against adsense). But Google is always in #1 in some services like Search, Maps, Mail, etc etc…..
If you know any competitors other than listed above please comment them here….
