Optimize Blog’s Posts For Search Engines As You Write – FireFox Plugin

Traffic is a key to success for a blog. We like our blogs visited by more and more people possible. The major source of a blog comes from three places,

 1. Search Engines
 2. Subscribers (Email & RSS both )
 3. Social Media ( Followers )

When I break down alvistor’s traffic stats, more than 50% of the traffic comes from Search Engines. So every blog post needs to be optimized for decent increase in blog traffic.

How to optimize a blog post for search engines while writing it?

Simple, There is a plug-in for FireFox called SEO Blogger, install it. After installation you can start search for ‘keywords’ by clicking a wordtracker icon in the bottom-right of Firefox (in Status Bar). Just search for keywords related to your writings, and include the top keywords in your blog post. Thats all !. After installing a help page appears and explains how to do that.

You can install this plug-in directly from Wordtrackers Website

Use Keywords With Care.

More keywords means More chance of listing in search pages. Just try to include most of the words resulted for your queries. When you try to include those keywords, be careful that the meaning of your idea you try to write in the post is not altered, because of most of the bloggers loses most of the loyal followers and visitors by writing worthless articles which only has the tons of ‘keywords’ but not the ‘idea’. Write for your readers (loyal visitors and subscribers or followers) not for the search Engines, but what to do, we need the search engine traffic, so give more weight-age to the idea than keywords.

How Much A Blogger Should Worry About SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO), an important and wide area in which most of web developer works. The main aim of SEO is optimizing a site to appear in top search results for particular keywords. Most of the online marketers, affiliates, work in this area to market their product or services through Search Engine results. If a site appears in the first few result of the search page when searching using particular word, then automatically the traffic increases. When traffic increases the probability of potential customers buying from the particular page increases.

Here, Do a blogger need to optimize the blog for particular keywords. How much a blogger should worry about SEO?

[sniplet postads]

If you think SEO is very much important for blogging then it is wrong, but not completely. Why, because

 • SEO is time consuming, which you prefer, to spend your time for writing good articles or to spend it for optimizing your blog posts for search engines. Most of the bloggers are not professional bloggers they write their posts whenever their time allows in between their schedules. Then how they are going to spend time for this optimization?
 • SEO needs Investment, for those who don’t know how to optimize their web pages, they need to invest some significant amount. and those who know SEO, they have to work hard to achieve the result, so money and work either way it needs larger investment.
 • SEO is optimizing for Bots ( machines ) not for Readers, when ever you aim on optimizing your blog post towards SEO, then you can’t wirte a quality post for your readers. Writing for machines decreases the value of your post.
 • Search Engine Tactics Changes Often. The leading search engine Google changes its search algorithm and ranking strategy often. When you optimize for some tactics, when you implement it, Google changes to the new one, then you have to optimize for Google’s new ranking strategy. Even a small changes in the algorithm reflects big. Many Giants who benefited from Google were now nowhere when Google changes its search engine techniques.
 • No Guaranteed Return of Investment. Apart from the hard work, investments and constant works SEO never promises for the success. Even sometimes the return is very less compared to the investment. So Investing for SEO is very risk to bloggers.
 • Other Issues Matters. In optimization you can alter the attributes which effects search engine ranking, but there are some attributes which you can’t change like bounce rate, avg time of a visitor, etc.

[sniplet postads]

 • SEO success not comes because of one time hard work. Even if you succeed in SEO, by raking your page in first few numbers for particular keywords, it is not permanent, in few days of your success someone’s page is going to replace yours. Sticking in the same position need more work than gaining the position.
 • Wise Search Engines. Google is now capable of finding the duplicate or copied content today. and so other search engines. Today no search engine index keywords and page depends on the “meta” keyword attributes. Google can generate keywords of its own from the page and index according to that. So separate concentration for optimizing is not needed today.
 • Advancements. submitting a home page url is enough for search engines like bing, yahoo, Google, and in some search engine we don’t even do that. Even though I never submitted alvistor.com’s url in russian search engine yandex results some pages of this site. These advancement helps bloggers to forget about optimizing their blog post.

Fianlly, SEO is not more important to bloggers, but you have to keep in mind that omitting the optimization fully is a bad move in blogging. Today most of the big blogs rely greatly on SEO for the greater part of its traffic.

As a part of Optimizing your blog for search engines

 1. Submit your blog URLs to search engines.
 2. Generate Sitemap ( if you using wordpress use All-in- one-seo plug in and if you are blogging in blogspot don’t care about this, this step is taken care by Google itself ) [tweak your site map with update frequency]
 3. Good Sensible Permalinks regarding the blog post.

Start blogging instead of optimizing it, Write your blog post for your readers, All the best.

How To Create a Blog Using Google Apps’ Sites Feature

Before getting in to this topic, I want to confess that this is little in-congruence, because in this method visitors can’t comment to your posts. But you have a alternate method to do that but it is a extra work.

This is as simple as creating a new blog, here we are going to use ‘Google Sites’ which is also going to work as a blog. Before getting in to ‘Google Sites’ know the difference between Google’s Blogger and Google Sites with hosted Google Apps.

[sniplet postads]

In Blogger, a member of your organization who signs in with your organizations’ Google Apps Account, he/she will get a blog with the url “hisblogname.blogspot.com” but in this Sites your organization users may acquire a Site(with Blog) with your organizations’ name in the first eg: “sites.yourorgname.com/your-mem-blog” where ‘yourorgname.com’ is your domain name.

How To Implement Blogs In Google Apps Sites

After you log in to Google Apps Mail, you can able to see a ‘sites’ link in the top left corner of your mail box window. By clicking that sites link you will be directed to a sites in a new window. If you have created a site already that will appear there, or else it suggest you to create a new site for you in your organization’s Apps name. Here just create a site and create some pages as you want. Here is the trick, when you try to create a new page name that page as ‘Blog’ and select “Announcement” template option above the name field.

After that the interface guide you to write your new blog articles. When you visit the ‘Blog’ page a new button “New Post” will appear top of the page. Using this you can create your new blog post. The post supports every rich text feature like font styling, sizing, image attachment everything.

[sniplet postads]

If you want your blog to be categorized then you have to create more ‘Announcement’ page with blog category titles. That is instead of naming your page in to ‘Blog’ name it as ‘Category 1′,’Category 2′, etc.. For Comment box, you can go to ‘Google Docs’ create a spreadsheet and convert it into forms. Now you can attach the form below the ‘Announcement’ page with the help of embedded code provide by ‘Google Docs’.If you are planning to provide blogs for members of your organization in Google Apps then this is one way to provide each person multiple blogs and pages.

[sniplet postads]

In this method your members could have the blog name attached with your domain name provided you edit your domain’s MX record relevant to the sub domain name entered in the ‘Service Settings’ of Google Apps’ Control panel. If your MX record pointing to “sites.yourdomain.com” then your users’ blog or page will appear in url “sites.yourdomain.com/userblog-name”. Please post your Google Sites page link in the comment box below if you successfully created a blog. Your comments may help others.

A New Contextual Search For Publishers – Apture

Contextual Search is the most important functionality for an website or blog. Because a with the help of contextual search a visitor may search what they want in the site, it mainly reduces the bounce rate if the user gets what he needs without going out of the site.

[sniplet postads]

I had came across some contextual search service for alvistor.com. Now alvistor.com have ‘Google Custom Search’ integrated well with the theme, it works great in both performance and monetizing. When I browse for some information I saw this Contextual search bar on the top of that particular website, that was so good. Immediately I look for more information about it.

[sniplet postads]

Apture – This new contextual search bar which integrates with your website after a single copy-paste code in your blog or website. The major reason which attract me as well as your visitor is its ease of use. That is, to search about a word in your website the user just have to select that particular text instead of typing it in the search form. The search result shows in the right side of the page without going to another page, and the listed search result of wikipedia, opens in the same window, videos plays in the same window and even the slide show of the resultant images. Which decreases the bounce rate of your site.

[sniplet postads]

The one thing ‘Apture’ lags is you can’t make money with the search, where as Google CSE shows the adsense ads with the results, which is not possible with this new search bar and so the reports of searches. If they provide this facility in future we can stick to it, or else we can code up for the same functionalities with Google CSE.

Grab Apture for your site

Note: Bloggers -> add an HTML/Gadget and paste the code inside. Save the changes.

Others -> Just paste your code before
tag.

Step 1:

Copy this code and paste before
tag.

//

hs.graphicsDir = 'http://highslide.com/highslide/graphics/';
hs.allowSizeReduction = false;
hs.showCredits = false;

hs.isUnobtrusiveAnchor = function(el) {

if (el.href && /\.jpg$/.test(el.href)) {
el.className = 'highslide';
return 'image';
}
//insert the if condition code for other extensions like .jpeg, .gif, .png etc.
}

function fixBloggerImages(searchFor, replaceWith) {
var href;
var anchors = document.getElementsByTagName("a");
for(var i = 0; i < anchors.length; i++) {
href = anchors[i].href;
if(href.indexOf(searchFor) != -1) {
anchors[i].href = href.replace(searchFor, replaceWith);
anchors[i].setAttribute("onclick", "return hs.expand(this)");
