Graphics With Unlimited Detail Is On Developement

3D graphics have for many years now are made from polygons, flat shapes fitted together to form objects. There have been some experiments with other approaches as well, but for the most part, polygons were seen as the way forward. New consoles and graphics cards were marketed based around how many polygons they could push around the screen at once, and it looked like the industry had settled on a good solution.

Enter an Australian company called Euclideon, who were unconvinced that polygons were the future. Last year, they decided to work on a fundamental reimagining of how graphics were drawn. Taking inspiration from the world of scientific and medical imaging, which uses tiny atoms or “point cloud data” rather than polygons, Euclideon claimed that it could produce a potentially unlimited level of detail in real time.

One year on, Euclideon hasn’t finished its tech, but it has certainly made a huge amount of progress. To demonstrate the power of its system, it’s created a 1 km square island that would be made of 21,062,352,435,000 polygons using conventional drawing methods. By using its proprietary “polygon conversion engine” Euclideon has converted these polygons to a scale of 64 atoms per cubic millimeter — this is small enough for you to be able to zoom right down and look at individual grains of dirt on the ground. All this running at 20fps in software and potentially much higher when taking advantage of specialist graphics hardware.

Euclideon’s technology allows the ability to scan real 3D objects into a virtual world. Previously, this produced models far too high in geometry and polygon counts to be practical for gaming, but the atom-based system of drawing potentially makes for graphics with an unprecedented level of detail.

Euclideon claims that its software development kit will be finished and in the hands of the games industry within the next few months. Only then will we be able to tell if its claim that their system is the “biggest breakthrough since 3D graphics” holds any water, it certainly looks like a potentially exciting development.

Project Cafe: Nintendo’s Next Gaming Console For Masses

Project cafe is the name for the next generation Nintendo console successor to the Wii. Now we got some info on what this baby packs in its hardware. From what we have heard is that it packs quiet a punch. We also got the pricing and the specs of the console as well.

From what we have got is that the next Nintendo console will be priced at $350 to $500, which is actually way better compared to the PS3 launch price of whooping $600. The console will me made by an Taiwanese company called Foxconn as early as this October. The release of this console is expected it to be on as early 2012.

The system will be based on a revamped version of AMD’s R700 GPU architecture, not AMD’s Fusion technology as previously believed, which will, as previously reported, out perform the PlayStation 3′s nVidia 7800GTX-based processor. Like the Xbox 360, the system’s CPU will be a custom-built triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset, but the clocking speeds will be faster. The system will support 1080p output with the potential for stereoscopic 3D as well, though it has not been determined whether that will be a staple feature.

The console size is kinda big similar to the original Xbox 360. And it also resembles the old console by Nintendo (The SNES).

Nintendo is considering naming the console Stream, though it is potentially one of several names currently being vetted by the company. This is the info we got, and please do tell us what do you think of the new console from Nintendo and if you guys get any new info or updates do share with us by commenting below.

nVidia’s Fastest Dual-GPU Graphics Card Released

Finally we have the dual-GPU variant of the nVidia’s GTX series. We also have done some benchmarks of the GPU done as well with the Radeon HD 6990. The nVidia’s dual-GPU card beats the AMD’s currently fastest GPU ( HD 6990 ) with an considerable margin in some games. But in some games the AMD stands out as well.

This result is kind of even at the mark, because some game utilizes the nVidia’s technology like SLI, Physx etc;. Where as in AMD, Direct compute, Eye-Finity etc;. But both cards also have 3D display features to. So it is kinda hard to tell which card to buy and both cards are priced at the same level to. So it depends upon which games you play and the games you play utilizes the either of these cards technologies. So its up to you guys to decide.

The GTX 590 has two GTX 580 GPU, it has 1024 CUDA cores. It has 3GB DDR5 Memory, Dual 8-Pin Power connector, 11″ inches long and consumes power of 365W. The GTX 590 is priced same as the HD 6990. So buy the card and enjoy Crysis 2 like anyone never will.

Give us your thoughts on either cards by commenting below.

Sony Xperia Play

The concept of a PlayStation phone has been around for nearly as long as Sony has made PlayStations and Sony Ericsson has made phones, yet we wonder how successful the device will be in 2011. If you cast your mind back a few years, before the iOS App Store filled up with a variety of awesome gaming titles, you’ll be able to imagine a time when a PSP phone could have ruled the mobile world.

The Xperia Play is accomodating a slide-out PlayStation-style gamepad is always going to bulk up a smartphone, and at 16mm thick and weighing in at 175 grams, you’d hardly describe the Play as pint-sized. Up front you’ll find a 4-inch multi-touch touchscreen displaying Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with some light Sony Ericsson customisation, plus four physical navigation keys and the Play also sports a 5-megapixel camera on the back.

The innovation in the Play is design of its slide-out gaming pad. That it makes use of a direction pad and four PlayStation-esque action keys is no surprise, but the addition of two touch-sensitive finger pads is a genius stroke. At the Mobile World Congress, people  played a quick game of FIFA football at the Sony Ericsson stand. Which was really good from the feedback.

Which brings us to the games themselves. Sony Ericsson has announced that there will be 50 games optimised for the play available at launch, and that these games will be available on the Android Market after a short exclusivity period for owners of the Play. These titles will include a range of games from Gameloft including Assasin’s Creed, Dead Space and Guitar Hero confirmed, and 20 publishers agreeing to customise content for the Play.

If you have any concerns, that whether Sony Ericsson has created a future-proof gaming device. With a 1GHz processor, with dedicated graphics and 512MB RAM, the Play should be fine playing the games we see on Android on this time. Also, there’s no HDMI-out port on the Play as there is on the other phones in the Xperia family, which is a real let down for a gaming-focused device.

Sony Developing Hack Proof PS3

Sony is currently working on a ‘hack-proof’ PlayStation 3 as a counter-measure against recent piracy concerns, according to EverythingHQ.

An anonymous ‘insider’ source says, “Sony are already deep into plans of developing a hack-proof PS3 system. This is mainly due to the recent leaks of Killzone 3 which has worried Sony of their console becoming a mainstream threat to piracy.”

The new model PS3 will reportedly have the current slim design, a 300GB hard drive, an undisclosed anti-hacking system, and a mooted price point of £186.99/$300.

Current models of the PS3 could also see a price cut as Sony hopes to clear out the old hackable models from retailers to make way for the new console.

A release date has yet to be set for the new as-yet-unconfirmed model as Sony will be looking to resolve its court case against PS3 hacker George Hotz before making a final decision.

Sony’s New Portable Gaming Device NGP ( PSP2 )

Sony has just come out with its next-generation PlayStation Portable Gaming Device. It’s actually codenamed NGP and will revolve around five key concepts. With revolutionary User Interface, Social Connectivity, Location-based Entertainment, Converging Real and Virtual Reality. It will be compatible with the PlayStation Suite and is backwards-compatible with downloadable PSP games and content from Sony’s PlayStation Store.

Specs include a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 5-inch touchscreen OLED display with 960 x 544 resolution, dual analog sticks (not the thumbtack kinda thing), 3G, WiFi, GPS, a rear-mounted touchpad, the same accelerometer / gyroscope motion sensing as in the PlayStation Move, an electronic compass, and cameras on both the front and back.

Games will come on “new media,” not UMD anymore, but we’re unclear on what sort of flash memory is being used. Sony’s rather proud of the fact it’s offering the world’s first dual analog stick combo on a portable device, though we’re more geeked about the quadrupling of pixel count from the original PSP.

Sony’s live event has been graced by demos of some pretty popular games, including Killzone, Resistance, Little Big Planet, and Uncharted even MGS4 by Hideo Kojima himself. And with the latter serving as a demo platform to show off how the NGP’s rear touchpad can be used to more intuitively climb up some vines. That touch panel on the back is the same size and positioned directly under the front OLED touchscreen, which allows for some pretty sophisticated controls when using the two simultaneously.

The new console’s UI will be called LiveArea, which has a bunch of vertically navigable home screens and built-in social networking through PlayStation Network. You can jump between games and the LiveArea without losing your progress and comment on your buddies’ great feats of mobile gaming.

The NGP pricing is not confirmed yet but one thing confirmed is that it not be $599. There will be two SKU’s an wifi only version and an 3G version.
