According to a Subscription based digital publication, Facebook owned WhatsApp is planning to extend their support service by supporting peer-to-peer money transfer over UPI.
UPI is Indian government backed payment system, interoperable across all national banks in India. Holding huge customer base in India, WhatsApp listens closely to the users feedback.
Recently Truecaller, a ‘contact’ database service added the support of UPI in their Android app. Tech companies are envisioning the future of digital payments in India. After demonetization, there is plenty of room to fill with digital money. Recent UPI integration by Ola and other tech companies in India reveals the strategy that expected to work positively.
WhatsApp has planned to roll out the support in 6 months from now. The time stated is too long in tech terms.
